Case Study 06
Company F was a major beverage manufacturer that had been globalizing through aggressive M&A. With an aim to create synergy in the company, including its group companies overseas, Company F was making efforts to develop talents who can take the initiative to expand global businesses. Human Link is working together with Company F to develop a global talent management program (GMP) as one of the initiatives to realize Company F's aims.
Company F has been conducting aggressive M&A, and has been increasing its foreign sales ratio. However, the company has reached a state in which it must shift from inorganic growth (centered on M&A) to organic growth (increasing the inherent growth rate of existing businesses). It is now aiming to create synergy within the group by cross-breeding the strengths of each of its group companies including those overseas. To this end, Company F will need to develop global leaders who can expand global businesses from assignments both in Japan and overseas.
GMP aims to develop personnel who can contribute as expected when put on global assignment. The two criteria are as follows: 1) They must be able to contribute to administration, project management, and development of new projects. 2) They must have English communication skills and be able to adapt to different cultures. Participants brush up on their English communication skills and basic knowledge of management and so on during the pre-stage. This is to prepare them to be able to take part in deep and constructive debates. In the first main stage, participants review the framework of management, and take part in case studies. In the second main stage, a management simulation is conducted to make sure participants can apply what they learned in the first stage. Human Link provided a program that combined various sessions and assessments conducted by a number of training companies and lecturers with the aim of brushing up Company F's HR skills, and continues to provide comprehensive support for operations as well.
GMP started over seven years ago, there have been 150 participants, and recognition within the company seems to be increasing After the program, participants excel globally by taking overseas assignments, supporting global businesses from Japan, studying abroad for an MBA, and so on.
